Betting on Horse Racing: Is Progressive the Way to Go?
Some horse betting systems try to sell you on progressive betting on horse racing. They want you to believe there is some magical law of averages which will guarantee you an eventual win. This is like saying if you play the same numbers in the lottery, then they will eventually come up. Well, yeah, eventually your number would come up; but, it may come up 200 years from now doing you no good.
Each horse race starts a new set of averages. If a horse has a 10:1 shot at winning this race, the next race that same horse may have a 5:1 shot at winning. This is because each race is different and raced under different circumstances. Even racing the same horses in the same order will not produce the same results. The law of averages has many factors and cannot be used in gambling. If it could, then everyone would make money gambling.
The only true way to make money from betting on horse racing is in understanding the basics of betting and having a good betting system. The system will help keep track of your wagers, and when you have a bad day, it will keep you from poverty.
Horse betting systems need to take a long range approach which is not the same as progressive betting. A long range approach takes into account that you will lose some bets. It keeps track of these losing bets and helps provide a high win loss ratio, keeping you winning more than you are losing. Then on bad days, it gives you the discipline to stop before losing all your money.
Betting on horse racing is meant to be fun, and nothing is more fun than winning. Find a good system, place your bets, and have a good time doing it.

Many Volumes can he do it again?
Many Volumes runs again today at Kempton in the 2.50.
One of my favourite horses, he has a few more top class opponents today, but is a course winner, progressive (the extra distance shouldn’t trouble him), he has a good draw (10) and the possibility that his usual jockey superted Durcan will ride him now that racing is abandoned at Haydock and Thirsk.
This horse doesn’t know how to run a bad race.
Anyone having a bet today?
Thanks for all your comments you were all of course right that Many Volumes was running over too long a distance (1 mile 3f is his max) & in a much harder race than LTO.
He was progressive and now they know just how far he needs & what class to run him in for the future.
I love that horse and followed him whatever, wrong I know.
What a shame that that race was also the one that brought down most peoples ‘Scoop 3′ today including mine.
I did do Elnawin (tipped by loanshark) with Many Volumes and Premio Loco for a win Trixie so didn’t lose all my money today.
Will post Best Answer later as want to see how Des’s horse gets on in the last at Kempton, good luck Des you’re on a roll today David G hope you did that each way on Hattan at 16-1.
Sir Alan..thanks for your email, hope you didn’t put too much on Many Volumes if any. When Ted Durcan didn’t turn up to ride him I was a bit worried about his chances, I agree with you about the old jockeys and Cecil.
Good luck tomorrow..Jacqui x
tricky race this one your selection needs to improve to take this . its a big step up in class today for him ok he won well last time but it was a modest race and it was a slow time . and i dont think hes certain to stay. im gonna take a chance with galactic star and a little e/w on hattan. happy punting

Your’ skill speaks volumes for you, but I don’t think it will be many today !!
Assuming he acts on the going then over the extra two furlongs I think Halicarnassus will beat you – However I really don’t think you can look past "Galactic Star" – you know my feelings on the first race and I am rowing in with "Premier Loco" in the 3-25 for a nice Win Round Robin. Hopefully Champagne tonight and not the usual Merlot !!

but he is a course winner and his breeding suggests he’ll have no trouble getting the extra distance. (Chester House – Reams Of Verse)
I think he has an excellent chance. You know I ain’t the greatest fan of sand racing
Only thing is, I long for the days when the likes of Cauthen, Ryan and Fallon used to ride for King Henry.
Durcan is ok but he’s not quite in their league.

I`ve done a lucky 15. All favourites. Elnawin 2.20. Many volumes 2.50. Premio Loco 3.25. Ashram 4.00. Plus Scoop6. Which is actually a Scoop3 this week. The 3 unnamed favourites. Worth a try?

hi jacqui , david , loan ,and alan, well got sort of agree with loanshark ive just been reading up on pricewise article in the racing post and i think all the pointers are going in favour of PREMIO LOCO whom a fav jockey of mine george baker takes the ride however your more clued up than me jacqui and its intresting what you say about the jockey change so we shall see.
my NAP of the day is going to be ETHAARA im a big fan of richard hills and he is riding today for a yard that is starting to get back on track allthou i no the season is closing so my cash is on ETHAARA today also i would watch out for KING SUPREME in the last race i think the booking of ryan moore is a clue itself.
