Online Horse Betting Vs. Off Track Wagering
Few experiences can be as scintillating as seeing powerful beasts thundering down the track, shoving and pushing, racing each other, with skilled jockeys urging them onwards towards the finish line, while at the same time hanging on for dear life. That’s right; we’re talking about horse racing here. But, almost as if the excitement of watching these races wasn’t enough, there’s also the element of betting on racehorses that can send adrenaline levels higher still!
As you can well understand from the title, this article will tell you about the difference between online and off track wagering and which is a better option is for you. But before we move on to the differences, I feel it is important for you to know what is ‘online horse betting’ and ‘off track wagering’. I’m sure there will be many readers who already know about them, but for people who don’t, I’ll explain both in brief so that all my readers are on the same page.
Online Horse betting:
I’m sure all of you have heard about betting on horses online, but many wonder what is it all about and how to go about it. It is almost the same thing as going to the tracks and betting on your horse, just that here you can act a little smarter than others, sit at home and bet on your favorite horse. This way you not only save time and energy but also have the access to bet on horses in different races across the country. In short it is:
? Legal
? Time efficient
? Convenient
? Energy saving
? And a wise way to bet.
Off track wagering:
Off track wagering brings the races to your home, making it convenient for the bettor as you no longer need to move from one track to another to place your bets. As said earlier it is a very convenient way to place your bets but along with that, it also has many other added advantages. One of them being the fact, that the bettor can place the bets anonymously over the internet or through the phone. All financial transactions are completely safe and secure, without you needing to handle any cash or check.
Off track betting provides you with all the necessary information that could help improve your chances of winning. The schedules of racing helps the bettor to know which races are being run at what time and on which particular track. The racer may also find details about the race horses participating in the races that can help determine the possible results and predict the winner.
This is extremely helpful to novice bettors as all the rules and regulations are explained in details to make the entire betting procedure simpler and easy to understand. Help lines are also provided to give bettors advice and proper help.
Now that you have gone through this article, you have a fair idea on both the kinds of offsite betting. Both are convenient and easy to avail but like everything else, they also do have downsides to them as well. But remember to analyze your needs and choose the one that is likely to suit your needs the best.

I'm thinking of opening an Off Track Betting Establishment?
I’m thinking of opening an OTB and would like input…. First does anyone know someone who operates one or knows a lot about it so I could have some questions answered via e-mail? questions for you all with just your opinion as advise. Is off track betting a thing of the past… Meaning does online wagering hurt the OTB establishments? How much? How profitable are these places? Any other advice or opinions… I love horse racing and would really like to operate an OTB. I understand theres legal requirements but those aside i would like input.
Anything is great thanks.
Running a private OTB operation is called illegal bookmaking and will get you thrown in prison if caught. OTB operations are are either government or quasi-government operations. There are major corporations that offer on-line betting accounts, but these are all in partnership with the tracks which are state controlled and require millions in resources for licensing fees and covering bets.
In England and several other countries private bookies are legal , but not in the U.S.

Depends on where you are, when I saw "establishment" in your question I kind of figured you might be in Europe. I’m American/ Canadian and I know a little about our OTB’s. But my info probably wouldn’t do you much good.
In Canada a lot of the OTB’s are affiliated with either the track or the OJC ( I reside in Ontario when there). They are pretty busy on week-ends and big races.
In the US it varies from State to State. Shockingly a lot of States do not allow them ( Well shock to me anyway…LOL!). I have been known to frequent an OTB when I am on the road and not close to a track. Most Southern States do not allow them ( East Coast from NC to Georgia).
I don’t think an OTB is a thing of the past! For many who love racing it’s their only option. I’d rather go to an OTB than pay some of the fees you see in on-line betting! The OTB’s I really like ALOT happen to be in Canada and are at racinos… they make them like Las Vegas race books. They are comfortable, easy to get in and out of and offer either SAM machines (betting machines) or "windows" to place your bet. I have been in nice OTB’s in Virginia but some are also not so nice there, meaning they aren’t as comfortable not so much as in "seedy". The ones I have been in in NY are bare minimum card tables (per se) chairs and TV’s… and that’s it. (But I have only been in OTB’s in small town OTB’s in NY …not any in NYC)
If you happen to be in the US you can email me thru yahoo, I can put you in touch with one person I know who runs an OTB in Hamilton, Ontario Canada. Hers is in a restaurant and does great business. And I know one man who owns one in Richmond Virginia. His is a stand on it’s own OTB and he does remarkable business at big race time, I can’t say what his business is on most days though.
