How did horse racing get from Ireland to America?

I’m doing this weirdo essay thing and I know nothing about horses or horse racing. Never mind the Irish Heritage of it. If you could help me out that would be wonderful~~ =]
horse racing was introduced to americans by the english. the irish must have contributed to the sport in the U.S when they had a mass immigration here years later.

actually you will find that the english thoroughbred had a bigger impact on world racing at the beginning especially to america where one of the stallions was bred to american mares and they trotted instead of galloping, messenger was the name of the horse i think , but no doubt irish stallions were sent there in later years
